Athens is home to a few clothing designers on the rise domestically. These designers make very hip clothes, that give off a summer/nautical vibe, also offering an urban setting line of clothes as well. In addition to their impressive clothing lines, they sell these items for very decent prices, making shopping there very enjoyable (will not drain your bank). Within the past few years, 19 Menswear Athens, Lanee Clothing, and Haris Cotton are three brands that are drawing much domestic, and even international attention. Although none of these brands have over the top designs, or designer quality, they represent the heavy involvement Greece has in the world of fashion, and the importance of dressing well in the Greek culture.
Owning pairs of pants, t-shirts, jackets, and sweaters from 19 menswear Athens I can attest to their high quality and excellent style. It has a sophisticated look, due to the lack of bright colors and mellow patterns, while offering a looser fit for the pants and tops. These clothes are perfect for everyday wear, and are a perfect mix of casual and dressy/smart clothes. Although they lack a website with an online store, these items can be found scattered in mens clothing boutiques throughout Greece, or through third party websites that sell them. On a separate note, Haris Cotton steers clear from the casual streetwear and brings top quality linen products to their customers. Of course the clothes are best suited for the summer season, they can be stylish year around. Reasonable prices, clothes made for both Men and Women, along with well fitting clothes makes shopping at Haris Cotton simple. They do not have many styles of their products, so there is no time wasted browsing aimlessly. Nautical blues, shades of white, grays, and even tones of red consist of their colorways of shirts, pants, shorts for the Men, and Dresses, Tops, Coats, etc… for the Women. I admire the simplicity of the clothes, and their price range for such well made, high quality linen products is a no brainer when purchasing. Stores located in the Islands of Rhodes, Crete, and Mykonos, with mainland stores in Athens make Haris Cotton have a large domestic presence. With the rise of streetwear and culture on the rise in Greece, the demand for variety in brands has also grown. Lanee Clothing emerged as a domestically produced option that mixes subtle streetwear designs with more baggy fitting clothes, making the perfect look for skater/street culture in Greece. What is most impressive about Lanee Clothing is how they offer a wide variety of clothes and lots of choices in each category. Hundreds of t-shirts, hoodies, pants, socks, etc… come out a year, which is impressive for a small business. With funky colors of purple and yellow, Lanee Clothing will draw attention through its unique color ways and looser fitting outfits. Refer to the images below for examples of their work.
Despite not being name brand clothing lines or crafted from exquisite fabrics such as silk, these brands represent the passion of artwork and eye for fashion that the Greeks have. All very affordable options that one could order online, I would advise checking out these brands in person or online (preferably in person) in order to see for oneself. While in Greece, check out these shops and perhaps even make a few purchases, you will not be disapointed when people back home ask where you got your hip clothes from.
