Although not as heavily populated as Athens, or filled with as much street art, Thessaloniki does have a street art scene itself. There are many murals that cover the sides of buildings and walls, and can be found walking throughout the city. These pieces are more relaxed, and not as politically oriented or grand as the artwork found in Athens. Still beautiful and creative, they are more abstract, rather than the realistic graffiti found in Athens. I am going to highlight a few of the pieces found in Thessaloniki that are eye opening through their creativity, abstract nature, and use of wonderful colors.
Many of the works shown are located in Kentro, the city center, but there are many other noteworthy sights one can find just by treking through Thessaloniki’s streets. As mentioned, these pieces are abstract and creative. These serve more as a form of artwork than for political purposes or to express a message. All wonderful, and beautifully crafted, Thessaloniki is a street artists must see destination.
