Life is Short; Love What You Do

From the Fall of 2020 to now the Summer of 2021, life across the world has seemed to be quite hectic and confusing. In certain Countries there was freedom to go out to restaurants, gyms, attend school, among other daily freedoms, while in other Countries it was quite the opposite. With the pleasure of being in Greece, I watched my friends attend classes in the USA and other Countries being forced to sit in their rooms taking online courses in isolation. One can argue I too was in isolation, back in heavily restricted Greece, not taking courses (I was not enrolled in school this year), and my Parents were working, thus it was just me. To contradict that statement, I had a blast, and what I mean by this was I grew so much as a person and kept productive, two things I would not have done being enrolled in College this past academic year. The biggest lessons I learned was that life is short, and to become successful it takes a lot of work (I stress A LOT).

To become successful one must lose hours of sleep and step out of their comfort zone to see the massive results, and I did just that. Having discussed my daily routine with some of my friends who were enrolled in University this year they told me I was crazy. In their eyes they were looking at my situation as a way to escape the rigors of college, and relax on a beach in Greece. For me, since there were no commitments I had to attend for school, I decided to work on myself. It was a much more difficult year than before in terms of my work and schedule. It started off with 5 am fitness followed by lacrosse training (American Sport), which lasted until 10-11 am. After I got done working out and practicing I would pick an activity to help me grow my knowledge, and relax. This included visiting archeological sites, studying a new language, writing for my blog, and much more. Although some of these activities may seem boring, I got a lot out of them. They were not as boring as sitting in a closed wall classroom or sitting in my room on a computer, but allowed me to have some fun while being serious like at a University. To answer the obvious, yes, I did go to the beach and relax for an hour or two a day to recover from my challenging training and study schedule.

What I got out of this was as follows: Life is short. What was September became December, and what was December became June. This continues for the rest of life. My hard work payed off as I saw significant development in all the areas I worked on. But I did not think of it as hard work or a punishment, I actually enjoyed waking up early and challenging myself. In fact, that is how I view my Fall 2021 semester back at University, a total grind that I will love. When you are constantly busy, one does not notice how time flies by. In addition, when one enjoys what they do, it is no longer a job that one dreads daily, but rather a lifestyle. That was the most important lesson I learned in life, not taught to me by anyone but myself. I will leave you with this, life is short, do what you love, and the rest will fall in place.
